INFORMATION:
Fahrenheit and Celcius are both used to measure temperature. "Fahrenheit is the scale proposed in 1974 by, and named after, the physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit. Today, the temperature scale has been replaced by the Celsius scale in most countries. it is still in use in the USA and a few other nations." (Wikipedia)
TASK
Turn on the itouch.
Enter the password: 7666
Select a city from the weather list.
In your scrapbook - record the high temperatures for your city (in celsius).
Now - switch your cities temperatures to fahrenheit. Record these temperatures next to the ones above.
There is a formula to explain how to convert from celsius to fahrenheit. Use your data to see if you can work it out. Work with a partner.
Hints:
There are 3 different mathematical steps
OR: there are 2 steps if you use a fraction
In both cases, you must start with a subtraction
0 degrees celsius is 32 degrees fahrenheit.
If you think you've got it, make sure it works with all the data and post your formula below, with your name(s) next to it.
If you get really stuck - click here to get another hint (but make sure you've tried for a few minutes first)
DON'T look at other people's formulas below until you've got a solution, and DON'T google the answer! Challenge yourselves!
